Dr. Natalie Fuerst
Doctor of Physical Therapy
Dr. Natalie Fuerst joined Functional Health and Wellness in July of 2018. She specializes in orthopedics, as well as yoga therapy. Dr. Fuerst utilizes poses (asanas), breathwork (pranyama), and other fundamental pillars of yoga (such as mindfulness and meditation) to rehabilitate injuries, reduce pain, and improve the overall wellness of her patients. She strives to bridge the gap of knowledge about the benefits of yoga, and to make yoga more accessible for all.
Dr. Fuerst received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Exercise Physiology from Marquette University with high honors in 2013. She continued directly into her Doctor of Physical Therapy program, also at Marquette University, from which she graduated with high honors in 2015. During her studies, she gained experience throughout the country, including outpatient dance medicine at MU in Milwaukee, WI, outpatient orthopedic training at Stanford Hospital and Clinics in Redwood City, CA, and outpatient occupational medicine in Dallas, TX.
In her time as a practicing Doctor of Physical Therapy, she has been continuing her education through the McKenzie Institute USA, which promotes the body's potential to repair itself and does not involve the use of medication, heat, cold, ultrasound, needles, or surgery. The McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Treatment (MDT) empowers patients to be in control of their own symptom management. Dr. Fuerst is also striving toward a certification in Professional Yoga Therapy. Medical Therapeutic Yoga is a methodology for using yoga in health care and wellness care as a form of integrative and functional medicine by licensed health care professionals.
Natalie enjoys practicing yoga, reading, hiking, hammocks, sunshine, whistling a good tune, and pizza.
